Poster Size Guide: A0, A1, A2, A3 and A4 Explained
· Shakeel Syed

A0, A1, A2, A3 and A4 all use the same proportions. The smaller the number, the larger the sheet. This guide helps you choose the right size for viewing distance and available space.

A0 and A1 are best when people need to notice the poster from further away. A2 is a strong all-round indoor display size. A3 and A4 work better at closer viewing distances.
Choose by viewing distance
The further away your audience will be, the larger the poster and headline normally need to be. A common mistake is to enlarge a flyer design without simplifying it. Bigger posters usually need fewer words, larger type and a stronger visual hierarchy.

Frequently asked questions
Is A1 twice the size of A2?
Yes. Each A-series size has twice the area of the next smaller size. One A1 sheet therefore has the same area as two A2 sheets.
What poster size is best for a shop window?
A1 is a popular choice because it is large enough to be noticed from outside. A2 works well in smaller windows or when several posters are displayed together.
What size is best for an exhibition?
A0 or A1 usually gives better visibility in busy exhibition spaces, although the right size depends on the stand layout and viewing distance.
What size is best for a menu or notice?
A2 or A3 often works well because customers are usually standing closer. A4 is suitable for information intended to be read at very close range.
Can I order a non-standard poster size?
Yes. If the standard A-series does not suit your frame or display area, use our custom-size poster option.
Should the artwork be exactly the same dimensions as the poster?
Yes, unless the printer specifically asks for scaled artwork. The file should also include any required bleed.
Can I enlarge an A4 design to A0?
Only if the artwork has enough resolution or uses vector elements. A low-resolution A4 JPEG may become visibly pixelated at A0.
Which size gives the best value?
That depends on how much visibility you need. The cheapest poster is not good value if it is too small to be read from the intended distance.
