What Banner Size Do I Need? A Practical UK Banner Size Guide

Choose a banner size based on mounting space, viewing distance, message length and where the banner will be installed.

Start with the space, not the artwork

Measure the actual area where the banner will be fitted before choosing a size. A banner that looks large on a laptop screen can look surprisingly small on a fence, shop front or event wall.

Think about viewing distance

The farther away the audience will be, the larger the overall banner and headline should be. For close-view displays, a compact banner can work well. For roadside, perimeter fencing or large event spaces, more width usually improves visibility.

Common practical banner sizes

There is no single correct size because custom banners are often made to fit the location. Typical jobs range from compact banners around 2 × 3ft or 2 × 4ft through to wider formats such as 3 × 6ft, 3 × 8ft and much larger site or event banners.

Choose the size around the message

A short message such as a sale headline, birthday greeting or event name can work on a smaller banner. A design with multiple sponsors, dates, contact details or a large logo needs more space so the text does not become cramped.

Vinyl or mesh?

For general indoor and outdoor use, our solid vinyl banners use coated, tear-resistant 510gsm PVC. For exposed fencing, scaffolding or windy locations, breathable mesh can be more suitable because air can pass through the perforated material.

Allow for fixing points

Think about where eyelets, ties, poles or other fixings will sit. Keep important text and logos away from edges and fixing areas. For very large banners, installation method matters just as much as finished size.
